Kirtlington mauled by Red Lion Marauders

In the 98th Jersey Cup final played at Bicester Town’s ground on Easter Monday, holders and pre-match favourites Kirtlington were beaten by Red Lion Marauders.

Marauders who were far the best team on the day took the lead through John Brookes after just ten minutes. Two minutes later with just the keeper to beat Brooks Squandered a golden opportunity of making it 2-0.

Marauders lead was short lived however as Kirtlington were back on terms within five minutes when Frankie Godin headed home a Michael Black cross. Marauders winner came 15 minutes from the end of the match when their patient build up was rewarded with a second goal for Brooks who headed home John Cook’s perfectly flighted cross.

Marauders defence marshalled by man-of-the-match Neil Brock held out until the final whistle thus enabling this famous trophy to return to Islip after a 20-year absence.
