The Jersey Cup Final, played on a wind swept Bicester Town ground on Easter Monday afternoon, attracted an above average crowd to watch holders and current Division 1 leaders KEA Utd play Middle Barton who are at present languished in the bottom half of Division 2.

Middle Barton, who were underdogs, kicked off against a strong wind that was to ruin the match as a spectacle and spent the first 15 minutes camped in their own half soaking up the expected KEA Utd onslaught.

Middle Barton, who were inspired by the brilliance of keeper M. Sinks and by grit and determination, gradually came to terms with the situation and made several sorties into their opponents half producing a couple of good saves from L. Parnell in KEA Utd’s goal.

The first half finished goalless, giving Middle Barton the glimmer of a chance to produce one of the biggest shocks in the long history of this competition. As the game was coming towards the end with extra time looming, KEA Utd gradually gained the upper hand and again put Middle Barton under a lot of pressure and with eight minutes of the 90 remaining Michael Black broke the deadlock to score the only goal of the game with a simple tap in following a mix up in the Barton’s defence.
