CHARLTON TAKE JERSEY CUP

Charlton carried away the Lord Jersey Cup after Barry Cooper completed his hat-trick in extra time to defeat Ardley 3-1 on Bank Holiday Monday.

Cooper’s lively form was the key to Charlton’s success, as it has been so often. He ran rings around Norman Brock, who conceded a penalty just before half-time. Charlton had been on top for much of the half and deserved a half-time lead.

Ardley lacked sharpness up front as they tried to hit better form after the interval. Rip Porter picked up the equaliser, and substitute Clive Winstone forced a great save from Derek Thomas after he came on midway through the second half. This vital save killed off the challenge.

In extra time, Cooper turned his defender and scored a vital goal to put Charlton ahead. When Ardley threw everything in attack, Cooper was through again for his third.
