STEEPLE JACK UP HETHE FOR A REPLAY

Steeple Aston rose to the occasion and shocked Hethe when they took an early lead in the Jersey Cup final played at Bicester on Monday.

A crowd of well over 700 saw a very even contest with second division champions Steeple Aston more than holding their own against their division 1 opponents in the first half. Gubbins put them ahead after Winstone for Hethe had a shot cleared off the line, and before half time both sides had missed chances. Gubbins put Steeple Aston further ahead early in the second half only for Gerry Mansfield to pull one back for Hethe and they were unlucky when another shot was cleared off the line by a Steeple defender.
Steeple Aston were now under pressure, tremendous pressure and it came as no surprise when Wickens forced in an equaliser after 20 minutes of the second half.

Hethe were mostly on top for the rest of the match, winning many corners without the desired result, but the Steeple Aston defence remained very firm and the 2-2 result was well deserved.

The replay will be at Fritwell on May 4th with a 3-00pm kick off.
