JERSEY CUP GO’S TO HETHE AT LAST

A crowd of around a thousand witnessed the Lord Jersey Cup final on the Bicester Town ground between Hethe and Charlton United. Hethe were the losing finalist last season but it was the first appearance for the Charlton side.

Charlton, with the wind advantage, put in some very good attacks and had shots cleared off the line, but after 30 minutes Hethe went into the lead when a defender put through his own goal, and should have gone father ahead in subsequent attacks.

In the second half, with play still very even, Barry Cooper brought the scores level at one-all in the 60th minute and the match looked to be going to a draw when, Sibley put Hethe again in front and they held this despite desperate attacks by the Charlton side.

The Lord Jersey Council on this occasion decided to give the teams something to remember the occasion by, and both teams were introduced to their president Ernie Roderick, chairman, C.H. Rawlings and vice-chairman Ron Hayes who presented the cup and medals to both sides.
A collection for the Lord Jersey Benevolent Fund was made at half-time and realised £26.32. This will be shared with the County Benevolent Fund.
