HEYFORD WIN AT SECOND TRY

After a gruelling saga, Heyford Athletic emerged as the 1978 Jersey Cup winners at the Bicester Town ground on Wednesday evening.

They had been given a tough 180 minutes by dogged opponents Brill United, who had held on to a draw in the first game on Easter Monday, and at the second attempt only a determined rearguard action by the Athletic kept the score at 2-1. Williams put Heyford ahead in the first half with a good goal and Morby added a second after a bad defensive mistake.

Brill, however, did not give up and after several near misses Pointer reduced the score with fifteen minutes to go. John Cross, the former Bicester player, tried hard to get his forwards into scoring positions but they failed to get the equaliser.

The cup and replicas were presented by Mr R.G. (John) Byles a member of the OFA Council for the last twenty-one years, to both teams.
