The final of the Jersey Cup, in its 87th year, drew a fair crowd to Bicester Sports Ground on Monday, but Banbury Town and Marsh Gibbon produced little constructive football to provide much excitement.

Banbury, the holders, bid most of the attacking without much constructive play and there was a great deal of aimless kicking. Marsh Gibbon’s young side needed a steadying influence, especially in midfield to curb their kick-and-rush tactics.

The only goal of the first half was scored by Langenham and they increased their lead in the second half with a penalty, converted by Phipps.

Marsh Gibbon’s hopes revived with a good goal by Rouse, who had come on as a substitute, but Banbury dominated the later stages and came to scoring several times.

Mr Charles Rawlings, a life vice-president of the Jersey F.A., presented the cup and mementoes.
