Heyford United, the holders, and Islip, who have never reached the final stages previously, competed at Bicester on Saturday in the final of the Lord Jersey Challenge Cup.

This cup, which was first competed for in 1887, is open to senior players, but it is rare that any are in the competing teams. Mr T. E. Emberlin and Mr R. Renn who played in the first final, were amongst the attendance of about 1,000.

With a high wind prevailing there was little constructive football. Heyford, who are getting quite veterans in cup battles, were steadier during the first half, when they led by a goal to nil. This point came from a penalty kick, taken by L. Brock. Tuffrey saved the first shot, but Brock secured the ball and netted. Islip also had a penalty, but Gunston failed with the kick.

There were thrills in the second half, the fortunes of the game fluctuated. Islip made great effort to equalise in the closing minutes, and from a free kick just outside the area W. Beasley scored, a Heyford defender deflecting the ball past the goalkeeper. Though the Earl and Countess of Jersey were at the match to distribute the cup and medals, no extra time was played, and the replay was fixed for next Tuesday.
