The usual large crowd, this year numbering about 1,000, attended the Jersey Cup final at Bicester on Saturday. The football, displayed by launton and Steeple Aston, however, was disappointing.
A corner after ten minutes play brought the first goal, Preston placing the kick accurately for Franks to put Steeple Aston ahead. The open play of their opponents had Launton non-plussed, and two quick goals near half-time, through J. Wyatt and Franks, gave Steeple Aston a commanding lead to cross over with.
Spirited efforts to score by J. Cox and Massey were incidents of note early in the second half, the Steeple Aston goalkeeper saving well from Massey. The open methods of Steeple Aston, however, were always more effective. From a melee late in the game, following a centre from Spence, the ball not having been properly cleared, J. Cox scored for Launton, But J Wyatt got a fourth goal for Steeple Aston.
Result Steeple Aston 4; Launton 1.
