The usual good crowd assembled to witness the annual struggle for the Jersey Cup trophy, at Bicester, and this year added interest was attached by the presence of the Earl of Jersey, who witnessed most of the game.

The contestants Bletchingdon and Wootton had both appeared in previous finals, the former having won the cup on four occasions. Wootton have never been fortunate enough to carry off the trophy. The heavy rain prior to the game had made the surface greasy and the players had difficulty in keeping their feet. There was plenty of kick and rush football, but Bletchingdon’s forwards were the more dangerous. Seven minutes from the start Saunders converted a centre from Buxey to give Bletchingdon the lead, but not long afterwards Brain netted, during a scrimmage, to equalise. This was the extent of the scoring up to the interval. After knight, in the Bletchingdon goal, had saved well on three occasions, Bletchingdon again went ahead through L Kenny, following a corner kick. The most dangerous forward on the Wootton side was the former Witney winger L Day, and he moved into the middle in an attempt to pull his team round. He was going through on one occasion when he was badly brought down just outside the penalty area. He had to be carried off for attention.

Following this the game was held up while a policeman forcibly removed a Wootton spectator from the ground, he having encroached on the field of play and attempted to strike the referee, Mr J.B. Dance. There was some unpleasantness after this, the general opinion among the Wootton supporters being that the perpetrator of the foul on Day should have been sent off.

A free kick to Bletchingdon later brought them a goal, L Kenny netting direct, and shortly afterwards Saunders added another goal.

The Earl of Jersey presented the cup and medals at the conclusion, and cheers were given for him and the respective teams.
